Plethora of restaurants, bars and cafes around the area walking distance mostly. Here are some we recommend:

Housed in a mansion from 1897 set by a gorgeous garden, Balthazar is one of the most famous restaurants in Athens—and it’s somehow stayed in vogue since it opened in 1973.

For decades, Mavili Square has been the after-hours meeting point for Athenian party-goers. Enjoy a thin crust pizza with top-notch toppings and home-made tomato sauce at Flower Pizza, followed by a Manhattan or a Dry Martini at Kýrios bar. Theatrically decorated with velvet drapes, leather stools, and shiny marble bar, it’s like something from a James Bond movie—here, the cocktails are stirred, not shaken. Open all day, it’s a lovely spot for a quiet coffee too. There’s live jazz on Monday nights. Next door, Briki is a classic neighbourhood bar. The narrow space is always packed with a crowd of all ages; there’s just enough space to tap your feet to the funk and soul tunes.

Ambelokipoi: A historic Neighborhood

The district of Ampelokipoi is located at the northeastern of Athens and is one of its most densely populated districts. It has a lot of hospitals, while before the war it was almost exclusively an area of hospitals due to its climate and many office buildings. The only two skyscrapers of Athens are located in Ampelokipoi. Historically it has been inhabited since 1880, while it was filled with streams and fields, while in the decades of 1960s and the 1970s it met with abrupt reconstruction. Nowadays the area is chosen of many university students because they are close to the schools, near the commercial triangle and has a lot of bars, cafes and restaurants.

The area is famous for hosting Panathinaikos’s home ground since it was inaugurated in 1922.

Two metro stations are located in the district: the Ambelokipοi station and the Panormou station.
